Autumn Lawncare

The Autumn months are the last of the growing season, therefore, it is important that you take care of your Lawn in order to prepare and strengthen it for the cold Winter months. The correct feeding and maintenance will ensure the quality and health of your Lawn.

Due to falling temperatures, the growth rate of the grass will begin to slow, leading to fewer cuts. This is a good time to apply your Autumn Lawn Feed, giving the Lawn the nutrients it needs to survive the Winter. Your local Garden Centre will be able to advise on a suitable Lawn Feed.

Aerating your Lawn improves drainage and allows more air to the root system of the grass plant. Aeration can be done with a Hand Fork or Spiking Machine.

Worm activity is beneficial to Lawns, as they help to improve the nutrient content of the soil. At certain times of the year you may notice deposits of mud on the Lawn, these are known as ‘Worm Casts’. Worm casts are produced during September to October and March to early May and can also occur during mild weather in Winter months. If left Worm casts can encourage moss and weeds. To remove; leave the cast to dry and then remove with a brush.

If your Lawn has received a lot of wear and tear during the Summer months, Autumn is a good time to :

• Over-seed - helps to thicken the Lawn.

• Top-dress - can reduce thatch.

• Scarify - reduces build up of decomposing debris

• Treat Weeds and Moss (Contact your local Garden Centre for Weed and Moss Treatments).

( Small ( kg) Buckets of grass seed are available upon request.)
